Houston, Texas holds a very special place in my heart. After leaving Hollywood in 2006, I set out for Houston. I had decided to make a change in my life after a rough patch in VO in LA. I’ll tell that story someday soon. But I sold my house in LA and headed to Texas. My brother and I had bought some land there and decided to build a mobile home park. We did it. I spent 5 full years living and working on real estate in Houston, all while maintaining my VO career with my home studio in place.

I hooked up with Houston talent agency Pastorini-Bosby    Talent Agency, Houston TX | Voice Over Talent, Actors | PB Talent

Throughout my VO career, I had garnered relationships with studios and agencies throughout the US. It was fantastic to have a local talent agency in Houston and you can’t do better than PB Talent. I still have a great relationship with PB Talent and am grateful that they keep me on their roster. A special shout out to Cindi Davis-Andress of PB Talent.

Anyway, Houston was an important time in my life. I’m forever grateful for the experience living, working and creating there. Not only did we build a mobile home park, but I bought another mobile home park, bought and sold houses, earned a real estate license and opened a donut shop during my time there. Texas is a very “can-do” sort of place. Local government, in my opinion, was very helpful for every endeavor we attempted to do. There was an efficiency and an entrepreneurial spirit that was pervasive.

I moved back to California in 2011 but kept the properties in Texas for a few more years after that. I love to visit whenever I can. I miss Texas. I really do.

Booking jobs for brands I truly LOVE…San Pellegrino!

I often have fantasies about voicing for products that I have a true affinity for or that I actually use day-to-day. San Pellegrino is a beverage I LOVE to consume. It’s great

for drinking at home with nice meals as I don’t consume alcohol very often. I like it when dining out, as well, as it makes me feel fancy and sophisticated. OK, I can be shallow when it comes to things like that. But I also love the taste of the water and appreciate the mineral composition.

When I booked a global TV commercial VO for San Pellegrino Essenza, I was over the moon. I remember auditioning and thinking to myself that this was another brand that I wanted to be affiliated with. I’ve done voice over for other brands that I really love, as well. I always feel incredibly lucky to voice for iconic brands like that. I know I can imbue a true sense of love and affection for the product in my voice.

Just Show Up…

I’ve been a working voice actor for over 22 years now. It feels weird to put that in print. But it’s a fact.

I started making a real living doing VO work in the year 2000. Through persistence, I had booked a series of Saturn car commercials that played all year and these spots really got some airtime during the 2000 Olympic Games. How does one make a living as a voice actor? Well, it’s not easy. I recently did a media project for Mizuno running shoes. You can see the spot below. When I watched this lovely piece of media, the point of the spot (regarding running) is to “just show up”.

Just showing up is not all you have to do to be successful. But it’s the basis for success in any endeavor. For over 22 years now, I show up every morning to do my auditions. Even if I’m travelling or if I don’t feel like it, I do it. I show up for the jobs I book. I’m present, I’m ready, I’m energized and I give my all to my client.

Showing up applies to many aspects of life. Exercise: show up. Get started. Even when you don’t want to. Once you get past the 10 minute mark, you’re glad you showed up. Relationships: Show up. So important! Be present for your spouse, kids, parents, siblings, friends, community. Showing up and supporting others is the foundation for successful relationships. Showing up is the first step to any area of life you want to be successful.

22 years of showing up for voice over. I’m thrilled and blessed to have been able to sustain a VO career this long. I’ve had highs and lows and each and every year I can honestly say: I made a living and I have a great life.
